Seminar examines how suburbs handle immigrant influx
On Wednesday, January 27th, the Welcoming Center for New Pennsylvanians will host a community discussion themed The Suburbs: The New Frontier of Immigration?
From small business to high tech, the landscape of the suburbs is changing. Unlike past generations, immigrants are bypassing central cities and settling directly in the suburbs. Data show that their education levels are high and their economic contributions are often significant. This discussion will focus on the implications for area towns and how neighbors, business associations, and municipal policymakers can work together to make sure that newcomers are productively integrated.
Confirmed panel guests include Thomas N. Micozzie, Mayor of Upper Darby Township; Michael Jones-Correa, Cornell University; and Randy Johnson, U.S. Chamber of Commerce; Domenic Vitiello, University of Pennsylvania.
The event will take place from 5-8pm at Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy (formerly the American College campus), 272 S. Bryn Mawr Avenue, Bryn Mawr. To RSVP, email Yuki Poudyal at yuki@welcomingcenter.org or call 215-557-2858.
