Latino Children’s Health Conference
Latino children are at high risk for diabetes mellitus, dental caries, asthma, and mental health issues. They often lack health insurance and experience linguistic and cultural barriers to quality health care. Panelists will discuss some of the unique Latino and cultural aspects that have an impact on these important issues. Larry Fiebert, Associate Executive Director of Family Services, will serve as facilitator. Panelists include:
– Ian M. Bennett, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor of Family Medicine and Community Health, University of
Pennsylvania School of Medicine
– Germán Salazar, DMD, Clinical Associate and Fellow in Oral Medicine, University of Pennsylvania Dental School
– Ludy Soderman, MS, Director of Multilingual Family Support, School District of Philadelphia
– Ivan Torres, EdD, Professor of Behavioral Sciences, Reading Area Community College, and Director of
Professional Training for Latino Cultural Competence and Risk Assessment, Alpha Training Services, Inc.
– Marla Vega, MS, Asthma Care Coordinator, Health Promotion Council

Cost: $50 per person. Three social work CEU credits are available. Scholarships are available.

Pre-registration is required! No partial CEU credits will be given. Registrants are expected to attend the entire workshop.
