Understanding and Managing Wetlands

In this class we will discuss the definition of wetlands and consider their function and value to our environment. We will look at ways to delineate wetlands and learn about regulations that protect them in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. A list of our native wetland plants for landscaping and habitat restoration projects will be provided so we can discuss invasive species commonly found in wetlands, and techniques to manage these plants. We will tour wetland projects done at the Arboretum and will finish with a discussion of constructed wetlands or rain gardens that can help remedy water issues in the built environment. This course carries 6 CEUs for Pennsylvania landscape architects and 5.5 CEUs for ISA arborists.
