Bread and Roses Tribute to Change

The commitment of so many different kinds of people to making this region great is Philadelphia’s greatest asset. Sometimes the only barrier we have to solving community problems is not knowing how or where to get involved.

That’s where we come in–Bread & Roses’ community grantmaking committee selects effective organizations working for social justice in the Delaware Valley and helps to support their work toward a better region. We also give our supporters the information they need to make wise investments of time and resources to make change.

This year, we’re celebrating 30 years of funding change, not charity, at our annual “Tribute to Change” where we will honor 30 activists who have broken new ground working for social justice. This year’s event will be on Thursday, October 11, 2007 from 5:30-8pm at the University of the Arts Hamilton Hall.

At this year’s Tribute we are honoring a diverse group of 30 activists and organizers–one for every year Bread and Roses is celebrating–who have made unique contributions to Philadelphia’s progressive movement.

For our 30th anniversary, we’re making the Tribute to Change event into a party with a special one evening exhibit of portraits of the nominees by photographer Harvey Finkle. We’ll also be serving wine, cocktails and light refreshments. Our special guest, author Manning Marable, will also join us to give a brief talk.

In addition to attending the event, please consider buying an ad in the program book (which will be viewed by hundreds of Philadelphia’s progressive leaders). You can also sponsor a portrait of one of the honorees that will be displayed at the event and published in a commemorative book.
