CWF celebrates millions for area families

The Campaign for Working Families has brought tens of millions of dollars directly into the homes of Philadelphia-area working families. And saved over $12 million more in interest, fees, charges for tax preparation and check cashing, and loans.

This coming Friday, May 4th, the Campaign will announce the results of its 2007 tax campaign at the Free Library of Philadelphia, 1901 Vine Street, beginning at 5:30pm.

The Campaign is a partnership that promotes free filing of the federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), PA TAX BACK, and connects Philadelphia residents to other tax credits, public benefits, and ways to keep and grow their household incomes. The Campaign boosts the number of people who receive free tax filing assistance and do not have to pay sky-high fees to commercial tax preparers. The Campaign is part of a national movement to promote EITC, to provide free or low cost tax services, and to protect taxpayers from rip-offs, including Holiday, Pay Stub and Refund Anticipation Loans (RALs), sometime called “Instant Money” or “Rapid” Loans. During the 2007 tax season, the Campaign operated 17 free tax sites located throughout Philadelphia neighborhoods, staffed by volunteers recruited by United Way. United Way also supported Campaign sites in several suburban communities and, in partnership with Solutions for Progress, offered free tax e-filing on its website which attracted almost 400 taxpayers?
