Service Learning Day at State Capitol

Dear Service Learning Colleague,

You are cordially invited to help promote service learning in Pennsylvania by participating in a “Service Learning Day.”  Join your peers from around the state for this educational event to help develop state-level awareness and leadership in service learning.  This special event is being hosted by East Stroudsburg University, East Stroudsburg High School and the Bethlehem Area School District.

Service Learning Day
The Capitol Building – Harrisburg, PA
Tuesday, March 31, 2009
8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Service learning projects from around the state will be on display for legislators to see. You and your students can:
•    share your service learning projects and best practices at the poster session
•    convey the positive student outcomes of service learning
•    network with area legislators
•    apply for a seed grant to help sustain your project (Application is enclosed)
•    encourage others to try service learning as a teaching tool

We are hoping for outstanding attendance in Harrisburg on March 31st.  To reserve your spot, please complete the registration form and return it to: Patty Campbell, East Stroudsburg University, 411 Normal Street, East Stroudsburg, PA  18301 by December 19, 2008.   Reimbursement for travel expenses, up to $100, will be available on a first come basis.  Funds are being made available through a grant from Service Learning United.

You can get involved, even if you can not attend on March 31st, by sending a one page profile of your program to Diane Seip, Freedom High School, 3149 Chester Avenue, Bethlehem, PA 18020 or dseip@beth.k12.pa.us   Please include pictures, video, and/or web links to your site.  We will include your information in a slide show presentation to be shown the day of the event.  The power point will be designed by students from East Stroudsburg High School.  Service learning in action!
