Lily Yeh to speak at La Salle University

Lily Yeh is a celebrated artist and social activist who finds her home right here in Philadelphia.  She co-founded, directed, and served as the lead artist for The Village of Arts and Humanities, an organization which uses art and education to better communities, from 1986- 2004.    In 2003, Yeh founded Barefoot Artists, Inc., an organization that teaches local residents of Philadelphia how to use art as a form of empowerment and pride in their local communities. She has used the village model in countries such as Rwanda, Kenya, Colombia, Ecuador, and Ghana—to name a few—to create peaceful and beautiful murals and memorials. In her social justice work in Philadelphia and throughout the world, Lily Yeh truly serves as an inspiration to all of us by showing us the effectiveness of art to ignite grassroots change.

She is the 2003 recipient of the Leadership for a Changing World award. Lily Yeh will be speaking about her commitment to social activism throughout her career at La Salle University on October 25, 2010 at 1 pm in the Dan Rodden Theater at La Salle University, 1900 W. Olney Street.
