In contrast to traditional social images of “the little old lady”, women today are creating new perceptions about what it means to grow older. Many contemporary women continue to juggle work, family responsibilities, a social life, and social activism as they age, and are appearing more frequently in the public eye as sexy, strong and independent figures.
Generation Appreciation Philadelphia will sponsor Women and Aging: Image (R)evolution a discussion about women and aging, exploring the often contradictory images that are presented through the media, popular culture, and film, on Thursday, September 16th, at 5:30pm.
Speakers include Merle Drake, LCSW, Executive Director of the Supportive Older Women’s Network, Sarah H. Kagan, PhD, RN, Lucy Walker Honorary Term Professor of Gerontological Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania, and Valerie Temple Lange, MFA, Programming and Community Outreach Coordinator, Bryn Mawr Film Institute.
