White House Announces Launch of National Partnership for Student Success
Posted by Voices for National Service on July 12, 2022
The Biden-Harris Administration has launched the National Partnership for Student Success (NPSS), a coordinated, research-based, locally-driven, all-in effort to help all students recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The NPSS will be led by the U.S. Department of Education, AmeriCorps, and a diverse coalition of education and national service organizations who will recruit, screen, train, support, and engage additional AmeriCorps members and volunteers serving as academic tutors, high quality mentors, student success coaches, wraparound integrated student support coordinators, and post-secondary transition coaches for students in Pre-K through high school.
Voices for National Service is proud to be a NPSS champion and we encourage others to consider signing up to be a participating organization.
The launch of the NPSS follows President Biden’s call for more tutors and mentors in the 2022 State of Union Address and this exciting new public-private partnership will lift up and build upon the work of AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps Seniors. For nearly 30 years, the AmeriCorps network – programs, state commissions and service members — have been a game changing resource for students and schools, providing the extra people power needed to support students so that they can reach their full potential. But more schools need this support to help students recover and thrive, especially after more than two years of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Those who serve and volunteer through this unprecedented effort will work side-by-side with educators and other personnel in and out of school settings in roles that research shows result in gains in reading and math, high school and college graduation rates, reductions in chronic absenteeism, and improved student well-being and mental health.
Voices for National Service is delighted that AmeriCorps is at the heart of the NPSS, a recognition of the vital resource national service members are to students, schools and communities.
