What’s Wrong with Women’s History Month?
The average young person doesn’t know much about women in American history. Alice Paul, anyone?
The sad truth is that American young people know very little about women in American history because, except for Women’s History Month, their textbooks and classroom activities tell them very little. But the reality is that women’s contributions to our nation’s history are not limited to one month in a year and so learning about them should not be limited either. That’s what’s wrong with Women’s History Month.
The Drexel School of Education and Vision 2020 is sponsoring a one-day conversation about this problem and possible solutions on Friday, April 11, 2014 in Philadelphia. Vision 2020 is an initiative of the Institute for Women’s Health and Leadership at the Drexel College of Medicine.
