Viewing Guides for The 1619 Project Docuseries
Posted by Pulitzer Center on February 7, 2023
The 1619 Project launched in August 2019 with a special issue of The New York Times Magazine. Since then, Nikole Hannah-Jones and project contributors have extended their work through a podcast, an anthology, an illustrated children’s book, and now a new documentary series streaming on Hulu.
This six-part series continues The 1619 Project’s work of placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of Black Americans at the very center of our national narrative. Viewing guides are available on our 1619 Education website to support you and your community in processing, discussing, and wondering about the first two episodes, “Democracy” and “Race.” Each guide supports educators in navigating the episodes by theme and by key term, as well as offering guiding questions for a linear viewing experience.
