THE REENTRY SUPPORT PROJECT
Community College of Philadelphia
Enrollment Opportunities
What is the Reentry Support Project (RSP)?
RSP’s mission is to assist new and continuing Community College of Philadelphia students with criminal records with overcoming barriers to their higher education and community reintegration success.
What Can the Reentry Support Project Do for Me?
RSP assists students who qualify for its services with every step of the admissions and financial aid processes!
RSP offers qualified applicants the opportunity to enroll in its Reach College Campus Program. The 2015 summer Reach program begins May 11th and ends July 27th = 10 weeks. Students take 3 college classes, attend work-shops, and receive transportation support and other benefits. Applications are being accepted through April 24th!
Applicants who don’t qualify for RSP services are referred to other College offices and/or community partners!
Who Can Qualify for Reentry Support Project Services?
To qualify for RSP services, an applicant must (no exceptions):
Have a Philadelphia residential mailing address
Possess a GED or high school diploma as of March 1st, 2015
Be at least 24 years old as of January 1st, 2014
Be legally single, widowed, separated, or divorced
Have been unemployed or earned limited income in 2014 (approx. $10,000 or less)
Have full US citizenship status and be English language proficient
Not have any default federal student loans from previous college, trade, or business school attempts
Be eligible to receive financial aid from Community College of Philadelphia (past enrollment may affect this)
Not already possess an Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or graduate degree
Be on county, state, or federal probation or parole when starting classes (acceptable if it ends while enrolled)
Not have any convictions for violent sex offenses or arson
Not have any open, active cases in the US
Not be on house arrest
Not be incarcerated in a Philadelphia Prison System work release facility
If I Qualify for Reentry Support Project Services, What Should I Do Next?
If you meet ALL qualifications, you should call the RSP office at (267) 299-5979. Do not hang up if no one answers! Instead, leave your name and phone number. Speak clearly. Someone will return your call within 1 week to do a phone screening and set up an application appointment. All applicants to the College through our office will be con-sidered for enrollment in the Reach College Program. Students who cannot qualify will be assisted with enrolling as regular admission students. Note that our office does not accept walk-in appointments.
The Reentry Support Project is an initiative of the Fox Rothschild Center for Law and Society at Community College of Philadelphia. It is supported by a Predominately Black Institutions US Dept of Education grant and a PA Commission on Crime and Delinquency Byrne Justice Assistance grant.
