NEA Foundation Announces Request for Proposals to Attract and Retain Teachers
Deadline: November 1, 2004

The NEA Foundation for the Improvement of Education (<a href="http://nfie.org/">http://nfie.org/</a>) and the National Education Association’s Teacher Quality Department are seeking proposals to establish the teaching and learning conditions necessary to attract and retain accomplished teachers in high-need schools. This RFP is intended as a call to action to review and reform state policy as well as local district practices to enable states, districts, and schools to take full advantage of the leadership potential that accomplished teachers represent.

Partnerships receiving grants will take action at the state and local levels to establish policies, conditions, and incentives to ensure that high-need schools have fully credentialed, accomplished teachers capable of accelerating the achievement of all students.

Three to six grants of $50,000 to $100,000 will be awarded for a grant period of eighteen months.

Eligibility is limited to partnerships comprising an NEA state affiliate, one or more local NEA affiliates, and one or more public school districts. Eligible partnerships may engage other organizations deemed necessary to accomplish the goal of the grant.

See the NEA Foundation Web site for complete program information.
