Summary of Position
The Program Coordinator will develop and help manage the start-up AmeriCorps Health Literacy program.  This program builds on Project SHINE’s existing model to increase the health communication skills and  healthy aging practices of immigrant and refugee elders and their families.  Intergenerational teams of college students, retired health professionals and older immigrants and refugees will work together in three cities across the nation through this program.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of SHINE, the program coordinator will be responsible for the day to day management of the local program in Philadelphia, including recruitment, training, on-going support of intergenerational teams of AmeriCorps members and leveraged volunteers, data collection and record keeping of the volunteers and their activities and maintaining partnerships with community organizations.  Duties include site visits, program coordination, member supervision and trouble shooting.   Program coordinator will also work in collaboration with SHINE’s staff team (including VISTA volunteers) to support national program operations and develop best practices.

Essential Functions of Position
•    Supports all project-related activities
•    Conducts outreach to develop and strengthen partnerships with immigrant-serving organizations, health centers and faculty members
•    Provides technical assistance and support to program partners
•    Supervises AmeriCorps members, conducts site visits and provides on-going member training and development
•    Collects, synthesizes and presents data to write reports and evaluate program effectiveness

Other Duties and Responsibilities
Serves as a member of the SHINE team at The Intergenerational Center. Contributes to program development and overall center-wide events.

•    Bachelor’s degree with program coordination experience
•    Experience working with diverse communities, second language capacity preferred
•    Health education, health background preferred
•    Training, community organizing and supervision experience preferred
•    Proficient in basic Word and Excel required; knowledge of  Access and content management systems preferred

E.  Equipment Used:    Personal computer and related equipment (databases, spread sheets, word-processing, monitor, keyboard, etc.; printer; copier; FAX; desk; files; storage cabinets; calculator)
F.  Environmental Conditions:    Academic office setting; overhead and indirect lighting; fluctuating internal climate control (levels of heating, cooling and general air handling may vary); frequent visitors and work flow interruptions; numerous incoming calls; frequent community site visits, variable environments across different locations in Philadelphia.
G.  Physical Requirements    Frequent movement between sites; frequent, direct interaction with community agencies/personnel demanding intensive concentration and excellent listening skills.  Must prioritize well and focus on completion of tasks and objectives while under stress of demanding work schedule; travels throughout the University, visiting community sites. Maintain a positive and objective approach and attitude.
