Youth Poet Laureate Applications
We are now accepting applications for the next Youth Poet Laureate for the City of Philadelphia. The application is open now with an online submission deadline of Friday, June 23rd at 5:00 pm. Poets can also apply through the mail with a postmark deadline of June 23rd. The Free Library of Philadelphia is proud to now be leading the Poet Laureate Program. We will be accepting submissions from young poets in all styles including written and spoken word, ages 13-18 who are interested in representing Philadelphia as its 5th Youth Poet Laureate.
Along with the prestigious title of Youth Poet Laureate for the City of Philadelphia, the winning poet will also receive a book deal from Penmanship Books to publish their first collection of poems. They will be mentored by the Philadelphia Poet Laureate, currently Yolanda Wisher, and have the opportunity to share their poetry and leadership at events across the city. The Youth Poet Laureate receives a stipend of $1,000.
Eligibility guidelines and the application are available here. The application requires an adult reference who can be a teacher, mentor, or friend. Please contact Andrew C. Nurkin, Deputy Director, Enrichment and Civic Engagement, at [email protected] with any questions.
