PA, Miami, Twin Cities Release Civic Health Index Reports

As you know, in 2010, the National Conference on Citizenship significantly expanded its Civic Health Index portfolio and partnerships to produce reports in 17 communities across the country. It is our honor to announce our recent releases in Pennsylvania, Miami, and Minneapolis-St. Paul.

The Pennsylvania Civic Health Index shows the Commonwealth’s residents have fallen behind in voter registration and turnout. During the 2008 presidential election when record numbers of voters went to the polls, Pennsylvanians’ voter registration, turnout, and fulfillment saw a drop. This report was produced in partnership with the National Constitution Center and was released December 22.

A Tale of Two Cities: Civic Health in Miami and Minneapolis-St. Paul compared the engagement of America’s highest and lowest civically performing metropolitan areas. The report explored demographic differences in the communities and found the tale of civic engagement in these two cities is more about differences in civic engagement among higher status individuals in each city, than it is about high status/low status differences within each city. It was released January 24 at the Miami Foundation in partnership with the Center for Democracy and Citizenship and the Florida Joint Center for Citizenship with support from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

In 2011, the Florida Joint Center for Citizenship will be releasing multiple reports to further enhance conversations centered around the state’s civic health.
