Nominations Sought: Youth Leadership, Creative Maladjustment and Social Change Award – Sep 15

The Haverford College Center for Peace and Global Citizenship (CPGC) is dedicated to advancing peace, justice, inclusion, and sustainability around the world. Most of its activities take place in the Greater Philadelphia Region. The CPGC seeks nominations for its 2nd Annual MLK Day Award for Youth Leadership, Creative Maladjustment and Social Change. The award includes recognition, an honorarium of $1,000 for individuals, or up to $2,500 divided among teams, and a featured speaking opportunity at Haverford College as part of MLK Day activities. Nominees must:

Be Youth Leaders advancing peace, justice, inclusion, or sustainability (for the purposes of this award, youth are generally considered to be under the age of 25; individuals up to the age of 30 will be considered; individuals or groups do not need to be students or alumni of Haverford College)

Advance justice work in an inclusive manner, growing recognition of shared human dignity and/or ecological and human interdependence in alignment with the robust work and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a small portion of which is referenced in the 2022 award overview.
Preferred nominee criteria:

Youth leaders living and focusing their work in the Greater Philadelphia Region and/or the adjoining states

Youth leaders advancing work that highlights local opportunities to address global justice issues locally, such as human rights, racial justice, and the climate crisis
To nominate an individual or team here by September 15, 2023.
Nominations will be reviewed by a campus committee led by Philadelphia Justice & Equity Fellows, Haverford students learning and working year-round with local organizations tackling racism while building inclusivity & social justice. Award recipients will be expected to deliver a talk or workshop at Haverford College during January 2024. Travel costs will be covered.
