Nominations Invited for Jonathan Mann Award for Global Health and Human Rights

Deadline: January 31, 2005

The Jonathan Mann Award for Global Health and Human Rights is presented annually to honor a leading practitioner in health and human rights, and to help call attention to the vital links between health and human rights. The award program is supported by the Association Fran?ois-Xavier Bagnoud, Doctors of the World, and the Global Health Council.

The award will be presented to a practitioner in health and human rights, be it an individual or organization. The award is a substantial cash prize and is intended to allow its recipients a measure of freedom to pursue their work in the area of global health and human rights.

In reviewing the nominees, the following criteria will be considered and evaluated: practical work in the field and in difficult circumstances; actual relevance to the linkage of health with human rights; predominant activities in developing countries and with marginalized people; evidence of serious and long-term commitment; potential of the award to strengthen nominees’ work; potential for receipt of the award to raise the profile of the award itself; potential of funding to enhance visibility and public awareness of the issue or project the awardee is addressing; and potential for attracting additional resources toward resolution of the issue.

An effort is made to cast broadly for award candidates to ensure individuals and organizations working at the grassroots level are given the same attention and opportunities of those operating at the national or international level.

See the Global Health Council Web site for complete program details and the online nomination form.
