New Award to Honor Successful United States Schools
Deadline: December 31, 2003

Intel Corporation, Scholastic Administr@tor, and the Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence Foundation have created the 21st Century Schools of Distinction Award, a national award program to recognize and highlight the successes of America’s best K-12 schools while celebrating their use of technology, the benefits of strong teamwork, and their development of excellent classroom teachers. In 2004, the Intel Foundation will award more than $200,000 to the honorees.

A total of twenty awards will be given. A "Best of the Best" award will be given to two schools, each of which will receive $25,000. In addition, schools may apply in one of the following categories: 1) academic excellence, 2) community involvement, 3) innovative use of technology, 4) involved parents/teachers, 5) partnership, 6) professional development, 7) teamwork, 8) technology implementation, and 9) technology excellence; winners in each of those categories will receive $10,000.

To be eligible, schools must have a comprehensive program and consistently achieve high academic standards. All winners will be profiled in Scholastic Administr@tor magazine during the 2004 school year. In addition, schools will receive log materials to promote their success and will receive an all-expense-paid trip to the awards ceremony in June for the principal and two faculty members.

The 21st Century Schools of Distinction Award is open to any U.S. public, private, charter, parochial, Department of Defense, or Bureau of Indian Affairs school at the elementary, middle, or high school level. Schools can apply directly at the program’s Web site. See the site for complete program details and application procedures.
