National service is vital to Philadelphia. AmeriCorps and Senior Corps members provide a cost-effective resource for stemming the drop-out crisis, engaging at-risk youth, enhancing environmental sustainability, catalyzing community revitalization, and much more. Further, the significant contributions of National Service Alumni are felt across the city as AmeriCorps, Peace Corps and Senior Corps members transition into new roles in their communities and the workplace. Because of this, Mayor Michael A. Nutter has taken a leadership role in organizing the third annual Mayors Day of Recognition for National Service, to be celebrated on April 7th, 2015 in over 1,750 cities across the country.
