NCTM Accepting Applications in Support of Mathematics Learning in Multilingual Pre-K-12 Classrooms
The National Council Teachers of Mathematics is accepting applications for its new Fostering Support of Mathematics Learning in Multilingual Classrooms (pre-K-12) program.
Through the program, grants of up to $4,000 will be awarded to pre-K-12 schools to hire an in-service consultant who can increase understanding and expertise with respect to multi-language development in the teaching of mathematics. The proposed project must specifically address the development of classroom materials with a consultant OR the purchase of materials to inccrease professional learning among educators. The consultant must have expertise in both the teaching of mathematics and the teaching of language.
Costs may include honoraria and expenses for the consultant, materials, substitute time, and conference or workshop registrations. No funds may be used for staff travel or equipment. While the grant does not fund the purchase of technology, proposals that include professional development involving the use of technology to enhance student learning are encouraged. Indirect costs are not allowed.
Proposals must address the following: need, mathematics content, scope of the plan, other sources of funding, number of teachers and students impacted, distribution of costs, and data regarding the school context (rural, urban, suburban), access to professional development, and the student body’s academic mathematics performance.
To be eligible, the applying school must have at least one current Essential or Premium member of NCTM or someone who teaches at a school with a current NCTM Pre-K-8 school membership. In addition, the applying school must have at least one current member of TODOS.
