Let’s Hear It for the Girls: Supporting Girls in Afterschool
Thursday, February 23, 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. EST (10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. PST)
About this webinar:
In the past decade, girls in the U.S. have experienced rapid demographic, social, economic, and technological changes. In this webinar, a lead researcher from the Girl Scout Research Institute will present findings from their recently released report, The State of Girls, the first-of-its-kind report series to focus on the health and well-being of the 26 million girls in the U.S. The latest report documents trends in girls’ well-being from before the Great Recession to present day, across five indicators: economic, physical, and emotional health; extracurricular activities; and education. Also featured in the webinar are speakers from Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas and Girls on the Run International, who will each discuss strategies their programs employ to meet the needs of the girls that they serve, as well as share suggestions for other afterschool providers looking to ensure that the girls that they work with have the supports in place that they will need to thrive, both now and in their future pursuits.
Speakers:
- Kamla Modi, PhD, senior researcher, Thought Leadership, Girl Scout Research Institute
- Audrey Kwik, director of STEM and Programs, Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas
- Heather Pressley, PhD, vice president of programming, Girls on the Run International
- Nikki Yamashiro, director of research, Afterschool Alliance (Moderator)
