FREE Virtual Writing Support for Students, Grades 6-12 – Feb 15

Posted by Write Away on January 11, 2022

Write Away offers free individualized writing support for students in grades 6-12. Write Away is on a mission to close the digital divide by creating fun and meaningful opportunities for digitally-based writing and expression.  Write Away was founded by educators who know the importance of human connection, mentorship, and enrichment opportunities to students’ educational journey, and this is all built into their Digital Literacy Mentorship program. Through an entirely virtual program, Write Away pairs students in grades 6-12 with a college student mentor who meets with them for 18 virtual 1-hour sessions (2 meetings per week for 9 weeks).  Mentors coach and guide their mentees through a series of writing tasks aimed to promote digital literacy, provide opportunities for self-expression, and foster a love for writing.

Write Away is proud to report that during the past year, we have worked with more than 70 mentees. 100% of our mentees said that the activities they do in Write Away are fun, engaging, and relevant to their personal goals.  Every mentee we worked with said their Write Away mentor makes them feel valued and said they look forward to attending their virtual mentoring sessions.  All of our mentees said Write Away is helping them become a stronger digital writer.

Write Away is currently recruiting Digital Literacy Program Mentees (students going into grades 6-12 at Title 1 schools OR those who qualify for free or reduced lunch).  The online Mentee Application for the Spring 2022 Digital Literacy Program is currently open.  Applications are due February 15, 2022 and the program will begin in March. Please note that space is limited and applications are processed on a rolling basis.

If you have any questions or would like to speak more with Write Away’s staff, feel free to email Deanna Santoro at [email protected] or email [email protected].
