Free Lifeguard Training, Phila. Parks and Recreation
Posted by City of Philadelphia on February 22, 2022
Do you have a strong 16+ year old swimmer in your family? For the past few years 1/3 of all Philadelphia pools were closed because of lifeguard shortages.
This is a major disservice to many communities that rely on this to cool off, have fun, and create memories that unfortunately are usually reserved for higher income communities.
This summer, Phila Parks and Rec is offering FREE lifeguard training. You must be 15 years or older to attend a lifeguard screening at one of two indoor training facilities. However, you must be 16 years or older to work as a lifeguard for the City of Philadelphia.
The starting salary for all Parks & Rec lifeguards is $15.25 per hour. Lifeguards typically work 35 hours per week from June through August.
Lifeguards ages 16–24 who commit to and work at a Parks & Rec pool:
- Certification: FREE.
- Recertification: FREE.
Consider referring young people in your life who would like to eliminate this access disparity for our kids and families in Philadelphia!
