Reports To: President and CEO

Additional: Serves on Leadership Team

The Philadelphia Education Fund is a nonprofit that serves teachers and students through programming that aims to (1) improve teaching and learning and (2) college pursuit and persistence. Over the past 30 years, the Ed Fund has led the sector through its nationally-recognized work in the design and implementation of an evidence-based, dropout prevention tool, called Early Warning Systems. In addition, its College Access Program and Philadelphia Scholars Scholarship Program are opening pathways for first-generation college-bound students.
Ed Fund’s Director of Development and Communications is an integral member of the Ed Fund’s leadership team. S/he is accountable for designing and implementing fundraising initiatives that enable the organization to deliver on its core programmatic objectives, as well as seed new and innovative work.

Key Responsibilities:

Grantwriting and Grants Management
 In partnership with program leadership, serve as accountable lead in the identification, writing and tracking of foundation, corporate and government grant opportunities
 Develop and implement tool to ensure timely reporting and timely submission of grant requests
 In partnership with program leadership, communicate grant deliverables and monitor timely performance against those deliverables
 To supplement capacity, as needed, hire and manage contracted grantwriters

Donor Relationship Management and EITC
 Serve as staff lead and support to the Ed Fund Fundraising Committee
 Serve as staff lead and support to the Scholars Advisory Committee
 Serve as primary relationship manager for all of Ed Fund’s foundation and corporate donors
 Develop strategy to identify, cultivate and recognize individual donors; including annual appeals, naming and branding opportunities, and giving societies
 Grow revenue impact of EITC program at Ed Fund through the design and implementation of strategies to retain current partners and identify and recruit new partners

Events Management
 Ensure financial success and quality execution of key event fundraisers, including Celebration of Scholars, EDDYs, and Score for Scholars

 Position Ed Fund as thought leader on matters of teaching, learning, and student success
 Enhance the brand of the Ed Fund through design and development of strong collateral materials, marketing and branding protocols, and website enhancements
 Communicate the brand of the Ed Fund through development of ongoing communications vehicles, such as newsletters, annual reports, op-eds and impact statements
 Significantly increase digital presence of the Ed Fund through more robust utilization of social media platforms

 Develop and manage departmental budget
 Develop and manage reporting tools to track progress against goals
 Develop annual fundraising goals and ensure goals are met or exceeded
 Train, develop, and assess performance of department staff

Key Skills and Attributes:
 Ideal candidate is a highly-motivated and experienced fundraising professional with a passion for working alone and through others to set and exceed annual fundraising goals.
 Exceptional writing skills are a must. Ideal candidate will bring foundation and government grantwriting experience, as well as experience writing marketing and communications pieces.
 A demonstrated interest in Pre-K to 12 public education.
 Demonstrated experience cultivating and managing relationships with foundations, corporations, and individual donors.
 Management experience, including experience managing consultants and independent contractors.
 A strong eye for visual design.
 Bachelor’s degree, required.
