College Board Middle States Forum Pre-Conference

Philadelphia School District Staff and Philadelphia College Prep Roundtable Members are invited to attend pre-conference sessions at no cost!

Sessions Include:

7:45 – 10:45am Workshops

Increasing College and Career Readiness through Parent, Family and Community Partnerships

In this session, school counselors will learn about the sensitivity necessary to effectively engage diverse parent, family and community populations in the college and career readiness process. School counselors will gain the knowledge and skills needed to develop and deliver innovative and non- traditional college and career readiness interventions and strategies for parent, family and community partners.

AP®: Coordinator Workshop

This session will provide AP Coordinators with the information needed to effectively and successfully manage an AP program. At the end of this session, participants will be skilled in ordering AP Exams, conducting a preadministration session, training proctors, setting up off-site testing, administering exams to students with disabilities, administering exams that require audiovisual equipment, maintaining exam security, handling irregularities and disruptions, and returning and paying for AP Exams. This workshop also gives participants a chance to exchange best practices and learn new ways to handle an AP Coordinator’s responsibilities.

Financial Aid Case Studies: What Counselors Need to Know About Award Determination

Why do financial aid offers differ? How can you help students and families understand and decipher these differences? This session will explore the financial aid process and give participants a glimpse into how college financial aid offices use information from sources like the FAFSA and CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE to determine how much families have to contribute. Panelists will identify and evaluate various federal and institutional aid practices. Participants will hone their professional judgment as they review standard and more complex family situations (e.g., family businesses, blended families, same-sex parents, etc.) and the potential impact of those situations on financial aid awards.

Workshops are free but pre-registration is required.
