Chief Academic Officers Roundtable – May 6
Posted by Campus Compact of New York and Pennsylvania on May 4, 2021
The Chief Academic Officers Roundtable will be held virtually on May 6, 2021 from 2:30 – 4:00 PM EST and is sponsored by Campus Compacts of New Hampshire & New York/Pennsylvania. This event is open to all Chief Academic Officers at institutions in the Eastern Region Campus Compacts (ME, Mid-Atlantic, NH, NJ, NY & PA). There is no cost to attend, but participants must register.
The events at our nation’s capital on January 6 will be seared in most adults’ memories forever. Contrary to stereotypes already circulating on both ends of the political spectrum, the January 6 insurrection was executed by a broad cross-section of the American public, including college-educated disciples of QAnon and alumni of many of our own institutions. However, higher education is distinctly positioned to form citizens and leaders who are able to discern truth in a digital age rife with disinformation and protect the principles of democracy in a deeply divided nation.
Join colleagues from across the region to explore how higher education can educate to strengthen democracy and promote a more just and equitable society. This roundtable will be facilitated by Dennis Jacobs, Provost, and Patrick Hornbeck, Professor of Theology, both at Fordham University. This conversation was inspired by the article written by Jacobs & Hornbeck.
