Campus Compact of New York and Pennsylvania Launches a New Community of Practice (CoP) – Boundary Spanning Leadership Skills: Activating an Equitable Civic Mission in Institutions & Communities
CoP 1 June 25—July 30, 2020: 2-3:30 pm (Thursdays, excluding 7/2)
CoP 2 August 5–September 2, 2020: 2-3:30 pm (Wednesdays)
Would you like to learn how to better navigate the complex politics within your institution and in your community as you advocate for democratic engagement? Join a Community of Practice this summer to explore the six boundary spanning leadership skills which will optimize your capacity to leverage your institution’s mission for the public good.
Boundary spanning leadership is the “ability to create direction, alignment and commitment across organizational boundaries in service of a higher vision or goal (Ernst & Chrobot-Mason, 2011).” At the nexus of institutional change for civic action lies the opportunity to utilize boundary leadership to effect change.
Goals for these Communities of Practice are to identify common boundaries, such as equity, which exist in higher education today, explore, and test out boundary spanning practices in leveraging your leadership.
What is a Community of Practice (CoP? It is a learning community, or collegial network, defined as “a group of people who share interest in an area of inquiry and engage in collective learning about that issue as it relates to their work or practice. Through discussions, joint activities, and relationship building, the community of practice develops a shared and individual repertoire of resources, skills, and knowledge to use in their practice.” (MN Campus Compact).
