Campus Compact is Actively Recruiting Campus Host Sites for the Campus Climate Action Corps

Posted by Campus Compact on July 11, 2023

Campus Compact, a national coalition of colleges and universities committed to advancing the public purposes of higher education, is seeking campuses located in the Midwest, Northeast, and Southeast to be Campus Climate Action Corps (CCAC) Host Sites when the CCAC AmeriCorps program launches this fall. Each campus will host a small team of AmeriCorps members to contribute to sustainability efforts on campus and in local communities. This is an incredible opportunity for your campus to begin or deepen community engagement efforts and design community-based solutions to your area’s most pressing environmental issues.

About Campus Climate Action Corps

CCAC will begin with an initial launch in the Midwest, Northeast, and Southeast. In these regions, teams of CCAC AmeriCorps Members will host community environmental education events, conduct home energy assessments, including home energy assistance referrals, and implement low-tech home energy interventions to help advance public knowledge and increase motivation to conserve energy and reduce carbon emissions. CCAC Members will also implement projects in underserved communities that enhance ecosystem health and leverage local volunteers to support CCAC environmental stewardship activities.

CCAC is focused on supporting campus/community partnerships that:

  1. Raise awareness and address urgent climate issues in underserved communities
  2. Lower energy use and energy costs for low-income households
  3. Improve at-risk ecosystems in underserved areas

Benefits of Becoming a CCAC AmeriCorps Host Site:

  • Access to a motivated and mobilized team of AmeriCorps members who can increase capacity on campus and in your community around environmental stewardship, climate action, and weatherization.
  • Receive resources (time and expertise) to support campus and community partnerships to increase energy efficiency for underserved communities and households.
  • Expand the reach of the campus and the ability to address environmental needs through community-campus partnerships.
  • Be at the vanguard of innovative civic engagement practices to address community problems and climate change.
  • Have the opportunity to network, collaborate, and resource share with other environmental leaders and host site campuses and regions.
  • Make a positive difference on campus and in underserved communities to address climate change.
  • For a moderate programmatic fee, your campus can leverage an energized team of AmeriCorps members and  unlock access to a national hub of leaders in community engagement and climate change in higher education.
