West Park Cultural Center (WPCC) was founded in 2001 to promote a vibrant community using arts and culture as a central tool in programs that help youth tap their creative and academic potential, and where all residents can access the arts, education, and other support programs.
WPCC afterschool arts programming operates inside the School of the Future and is open to children and youth ages 7-18.
We are committed to program excellence by providing:
Professional artist/instructors
Skill building and fun projects
A safe environment
Open access at low or no cost
Opportunities for exhibition and performance
Spring Session (16 classes) starts
Cost: $40 (one time fee) This fee can be waived for those with a financial challenge.
CERAMICS
Mondays and Wednesdays 3:30pm-5:30pm Ages 7-18 Instructor: Janice Merendino Come make cool things! In this class you will learn how to design and create your own clay pieces from start to finish.
Learn hand building and throwing on the potters wheel. Learn clay animation.
Learn technical skills needed to make creative sculpture and usable items such as bowls, mugs, vases, teapots, animated videos, and more.
Exhibit your finished pieces
MUSIC PERFORMANCE & PRODUCTION
Mondays /Wednesdays – 3:30pm-5:30pm Ages 12-18 Instructors: Paul Kauriga and Jennifer Pague
Come learn how to become a music industry professional. Learn to play a mu-sical instrument (guitar, bass guitar, key-board , drums) or vocal. Find out how to be-come a professional musician or producer/recording engineer. No previous musical ex-perience required. Applicants participate in a basic interview process to join the class.
Meet musical artists, producers and recording engineers
Learn how to perform, record, and produce your own CD or mp3 for download online
Learn how to operate professional performance and recording equipment
How to get started in the music business
Perform or work with a professional sound crew at a major concert/festival
