Lenfest Institute for Journalism launches Philadelphia Local News Sustainability Initiative
The Lenfest Institute for Journalism has announced the launch of the Philadelphia Local News Sustainability Initiative.
The initiative will award up to 16 core operating support and capacity-building funding grants to for-profit and nonprofit local news organizations in the Philadelphia region with operating revenue budgets between $500,000 and $5 million. The initiative will award up to eight two-year grants of up to $100,000 and eight two-year grants of up to $150,000. It will provide business resources to assist with an organization’s primary sustainability functions, such as digital transformation, implementation of new revenue activities, customer and community engagement plans, or expansion of mission-critical staffing. Nonprofit media partners are also eligible to apply for core operating support to support their mission and to cover overhead expenses such as rent, salaries, equipment, and other day-to-day costs, provided these investments are tied tangibly to measurable business and sustainability goals.
The Lenfest Institute will actively engage with grantees to share expertise from local and national partners and lessons learned from this group with the broader community.
For complete program guidelines and application instructions, see the Lenfest Institute for Journalism website.
Deadline: September 15, 2023
