December Master Class: My Beautiful Black Hair – Dec 8
Posted by Rutgers Camden on November 29, 2022
To recognize the anniversary of the signing of the CROWN Act within the state of New Jersey, we invite you to a special edition of the Master Class series.
Guest speaker and author St. Clair Detrick-Jules will discuss what she has learned through her almost four-year-long journey photographing and interviewing 101 Black women with natural hair for her photojournalism book, My Beautiful Black Hair: 101 Natural Hair Stories from the Sisterhood.
Through her work, St. Clair will offer a blueprint for using narrative storytelling — both on an individual level and on a communal level — as a form of social activism.
Attendees will learn how conversations about Black hair are an entry-point into self-love, generational healing, community relationships, and anti-racism work.
The Rutgers University-Camden Division of Diversity, Inclusion, and Civic Engagement (D.I.C.E.) Master Class series is a social and cultural capacity building education initiative led by renowned experts in the subject of diversity, equity and inclusion.
Date and Time: December 8, 2022, 12:45–1:45 PM
Location: Campus Center, South ABC Conference Room, 326 Penn Street, Camden, NJ
