Summer English Instructor, Phila. Futures
Posted by Philadelphia Futures on April 12, 2022
Philadelphia Futures provides low-income, first-generation-to-college students with the tools, resources, and opportunities necessary for admission to and success in college. Our direct access programs, Sponsor-A-Scholar (SAS) and College Connection, provide academic enrichment, college guidance, and a range of other services for promising high school students attending Philadelphia’s public, charter, and parochial high schools. Summer Institute is one of the programs that supports a successful transition from high school to college for PF Students.
Summer English Instructor position:
The Summer English Instructor will work with students who have just graduated high school and will be attending college in the fall. The goals of the course include building and strengthening writing skills, giving students an academic experience that represents a college course, and modeling strategies for academic success including using academic search tools, citing sources and avoiding plagiarism.
The program will be in person on Temple University’s campus in Summer 2022, with instruction being offered in-person and office hours and student meetings being offered virtually.. Classes will be held between 9am-2pm on Mondays through Thursday from July 5th through July 29th . Students will be divided into four class sections, with each meeting for 90 minutes twice a week on MW or T-Th. We will consider hiring one instructor for all sections or multiple instructors to cover the four groups.
It is expected that both the instructor and the students will do work outside of class time, which could include providing “office hours” at various times during the four week program.
