Shelter Health Outreach Program: Collaborators and Donations Needed
Posted by Shelter Health Outreach Program on October 6, 2020
Shelter Health Outreach Program (SHOP) at Penn is a student-run organization in coordination with advisors from the Perelman School of Medicine and Penn Social Policy & Practice that directly serves the homeless population. Through trained clinical volunteering, SHOP provides valuable healthcare service, education, and resources to the Philadelphia homeless population through our fruitful partnerships with homeless shelters and resource facilities in our community.
In addition to the immense challenges faced by homeless people, COVID-related resource shortages have further prevented vulnerable populations from receiving the meals and aid they need. Job insecurity has also caused more people to lose their homes. Shelters are in dire need of support to meet these rising demands.
We at SHOP Penn are looking to establish sustainable relationships with community organizations to better help serve the needs of our shelters and the homeless community. Our partnerships with nonprofits and organizations in our community are integral to our continued success. We are currently partnered with three active homeless shelters in Philadelphia. Our partner shelters have reached out to us with increased need in monetary support and material goods, including food partners, hygiene products, and many other categories.
We are able to accept monetary or product donations, and facilitate their allocation to shelters around Philadelphia. If you would like to collaborate further with us, we would also be open to meeting virtually and answering any questions.
