Philadelphia Poverty Action Plan
Posted by Philadelphia Association of Community Development Corporations on March 17, 2020
City Council released the Philadelphia Poverty Action Plan, which sets a goal of lifting 100,000 Philadelphians out of poverty by 2024: http://phlcouncil.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/PhilaPovertyActionPlan_March2020_2.pdf.
PACDC and many of our members served on Council’s Special Committee on Poverty Reduction and Prevention (http://phlcouncil.com/council-announces-poverty-action-plan/) and its three subcommittees focused on housing, the social safety net, as well as jobs and education. Over the course of the fall of 2019, those subcommittees met several times, held a public hearing to solicit input from community members, reviewed key data, and made concrete recommendations of policies and programs Council and the Kenney Administration could support, many of which were included in the plan.
We look forward to working with City Council and Mayor Kenney on implementation of the ideas in the plan, and hope you’ll get involved when there are opportunities to testify during budget hearings this spring and summer! Stay tuned as hearing dates are announced this month.
