Sound Off: Reframing the News, Jan 29
Posted by Resolve Philly on January 14, 2020
Does the local news represent YOUR neighborhood fairly? Join Philly residents and reporters to talk about improving media narratives.
Do you feel like Philly news organizations accurately and fairly represent your neighborhood? Do the descriptions you see and hear paint a complete picture? What words would you use to tell the story of your community?
At Resolve Philly, we’re launching a new initiative, called Reframe, to help newsrooms reconnect with their communities and use more inclusive, accurate, and human-centered language in their reporting. And we want to hear from YOU to kick off this project, and as part of our Sound Off event series.
On January 29 from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Resolve is teaming up with Temple University’s Klein College of Media and Communication to host a community discussion about language, news, and representation. We’ll gather in the University’s brand new Charles Library to talk about the headlines we see, the narratives they build, and the stories you want told.
Location: Charles Library, 1900 North 13th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19122
Your voice will be heard by the Resolve Philly team as we bring Reframe to newsrooms and by journalists joining the discussion. Your perspective will help us bring real change to the local news ecosystem.
There will be pizza and drinks, too!
This event is free but with limited capacity so please RSVP: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/sound-off-reframing-the-news-tickets-88540700619
