Workshop: Exploring Contemporary World Cultures, Oct. 21
Posted by Stockton Rush Bartol Foundation on September 24, 2019
Date and Time: Monday, October 21, 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM
Location: Friends Center, 1501 Cherry Street, Philadelphia, PA 19102
The work of contemporary artists in any art form can act as a door to understanding world cultures beyond folk or traditional arts. Lisa Volta, teaching artist for Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture, spotlights contemporary Arab artists as a way to explore history, cultural context, and specific artistic techniques. Marissa Kennedy, teaching artist for Philadelphia Young Playwrights, uses writing prompts that encourage students to share their personal experiences. These two teaching artists will collaborate on this bookmaking and writing workshop while investigating how to appropriately bring world cultures (including those that are not your own) into your classroom. Artists in any discipline are welcome.
