    National Network of Libraries of Medicine Invites Applications for Health Programming in Public Libraries Award
    The mission of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine is to advance the progress of medicine, improve public health by providing U.S. health professionals with equal access to biomedical information, and improve individuals’ access to information that helps them make informed decisions about their health. Under a cooperative agreement with the National Library of Medicine, the University of Pittsburgh Health Sciences Library System serves as the regional medical library for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Middle Atlantic Region (NNLM MAR).
    NNLM MAR currently is inviting applications from community-based organizations (CBOs) to support health programming in public libraries. The purpose of the Health Programming in Public Libraries Award is to provide funding to CBOs to help them incorporate MedlinePlus and information about the All of Us Research Program into existing health programming.
    Through the program, grants of up to $19,500 will be awarded to organizations that offer existing health programming to the public in Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. Proposals must include the use existing high-quality health programming that can be adapted for public library audiences (the award does not support the development of new programs); a submission of sample program materials for review for applicability and quality; and outline the organization’s ability to complete at least six in-person programs at two or more public libraries in their area between October 2019 and April 2020.
    NNLM MAR staff will work with funded programs to integrate relevant health information and NIH All of Us Research Program content into their programs and to assist them with making connections with local public libraries. Efforts will be made to fund programs across the region that have the potential to reach populations that are underserved by research.
    To be eligible, applicants must be a community-based organization with 501(c)(3) status under the Internal Revenue Code and be member of NNLM. Membership is free and open to any organization that provides or promotes health information. Awards are cost-reimbursable and are issued to the institution and not an individual.
    Applications are due September 20, and recipients will be notified of their awards by September 30.
