The National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy has released the second in a series of reports documenting the impacts of advocacy, community organizing and civic engagement. The report features the work of 13 organizations in North Carolina and what they have accomplished since 2003. The findings are very impressive – for those wins that could be quantified, NCRP documented more than $1.8 billion in benefits to workers, youth, the uninsured, senior citizens, rural residents, individuals with HIV/AIDS, and many other under-represented constituencies. The groups also achieved many equally significant non-monetary impacts benefiting farmworkers, LGBT residents, and others.
NCRP is using the series of reports to engage institutional grantmakers in dialogue about the effectiveness of advocacy and organizing with the goal of increasing philanthropic support for these strategies. Previously NCRP released a similar report about advocacy and organizing in New Mexico.
