Medicare Open Enrollment through Dec 7

Resources available for older adults during Medicare open enrollment
The annual open enrollment period for Medicare started October 15 and extends through December 7. Seniors who are already enrolled in Medicare, the country’s health insurance program for those 65-plus (and for people younger than 65 who have certain disabilities and health conditions) have the opportunity to change their health plan and prescription drug coverage for the coming year.
It is recommended that all Medicare beneficiaries review their plan every year to evaluate whether the same or another plan would best meet their upcoming needs. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) offers outreach and education materials in English, Spanish and other languages that agencies can use to help others with Medicare open enrollment.
Additionally, the federally funded Apprise program provides free, individual health insurance counseling for Pennsylvanians eligible for Medicare. Professional and volunteer counselors answer questions and provide objective, easy-to-understand information about Medicare eligibility and enrollment. They can also provide advice on Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement (Medigap) and drug prescription plans. Counselors also assist caregivers, professionals and others. The Apprise program is administered in Philadelphia by PCA. For more information or to make an appointment, click here.
