Position Overview
As a member of the Development team, the Civic Engagement Program Manager (CE PM) is responsible for managing a team of six Senior AmeriCorps members (the Civic Engagement team) who plan and execute at least 15 high quality service events per year for community members, City Year alumni, corporate partners and key stakeholders. The CE PM plays a critical role in developing and managing partnerships with schools and community organizations to ensure that the necessary conditions are in place for the Civic Engagement team to deliver excellent service projects and positive volunteer experiences for all participants. The CE PM is also an effective talent developer who leads AmeriCorps members to have a successful and rewarding year of service.
Job Description
Service Delivery and Impact
- Event Planning – Lead planning, design, set-up, execution, and follow-up phases of all service events that include painting murals, gardening, and light construction at schools or community centers; set and monitor clear, measurable deliverables for AmeriCorps members to ensure effective planning and execution of events; ensure that service events meet both the needs of the site as well as the goals of sponsors; utilize resources efficiently to maximize budget.
- Service Reserves Program – Oversee recruitment, training, and coordination of Service Reserves, a group of up to 50 AmeriCorps members that provide support to the Civic Engagement team on weekend service events; leverage Service Ambassador Program to create a pipeline of AmeriCorps members for future Civic Engagement teams.
AmeriCorps Member Program Delivery and Experience
- Training – Identify, develop, and facilitate trainings on project planning and management, volunteer management, customer service and all other elements specific to the Civic Engagement team.
Management – Ensure the professional accountability of all team members through daily interactions, ongoing one on one check-ins and formal performance reviews; effectively leverage AmeriCorps experience to support service delivery. - Coaching – Actively support AmeriCorps members in service with regular coaching to meet performance standards for excellence and to meet expectations for all inspirational standards that are expected of City Year members; provide ongoing feedback for professional development.
- Team Development – Ensure that the team is well-developed, strong, and connected to their work and to the organization; support the professional development of AmeriCorps members by effectively facilitating content and connecting AmeriCorps members with appropriate resources for development.
Partner Management
- School and Community Partner Management – Identify and secure schools and community centers for service events, building strong relationships with key stakeholders including school administration, parent councils, teachers, and executive directors.
- External Partnership Management – Meet the service event goals and expectations of sponsors, partnering as necessary to identify and achieve maximum results.
- Volunteer Management – Design a process that will engage volunteers in meaningful and high impact service; ensure that volunteers have clear direction and resources; track volunteer statistics.
- Internal City Year Staff Partnership Management – Work effectively with City Year staff on partnership set up and management, as well as service day logistics implementation; partner with Civic Engagement teams across the City Year network on best practice sharing.
Organizational Initiatives and Site Support
- Partner with City Year Philadelphia’s departments and staff to ensure that site-wide goals are met, including, but not limited to, the AmeriCorps member applicant interview process, stakeholder engagement, event and service day participation, and cross-departmental committees
- Attend overnight conferences including Summer Academy, a week-long training conference for all City Year Staff held in Boston in July, and additional engagement and training activities
Qualifications
- BA/BS or extensive City Year experience required.
- Background in project management and education preferred.
- Commitment to and experience with community service, national service, and/or the development of young people as leaders.
- Demonstrated experience with developing diverse talent through performance plans, reviews, and leadership opportunities.
- Ability to adapt and thrive in a diverse, youthful, high-energy, entrepreneurial and rapidly-changing environment.
- Attitude essentials: growth mindset, passion for City Year’s mission, detail oriented, commitment to teamwork.
- Open to flexible hours that include late evenings and weekend work.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and ability to drive a cargo van / large vehicle.
