What: “The Role of Schools and Communities in Helping Children to Heal from Trauma” led by Dr. Jeanne Felter, PhD, LPC who directs the Community & Trauma Counseling Program at Philadelphia University and is very involved in bringing trauma-informed practices to Philadelphia area schools.
When: June 8th from 5:45-9pm at Steel School (4301 Wayne Ave Philadelphia, PA 19140).
IN THIS WORKSHOP WE WILL
- Define trauma and discuss the prevalence of trauma among Philadelphia youth
- Discuss the adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE)
- Study and its implications
- Describe and discuss the potential effects of trauma on a child’s development, health, learning and overall functioning
- Recognize and discuss the critical role of the school and community in helping children to heal from trauma
Dr. Jeanne Felter is the Director of the Community and Trauma Counseling Program at Philadelphia University. She has extensive experience working with and collaborating with many Philadelphia K-12 schools and systems. Additionally, she is an active participant on The Philadelphia ACES Taskforce, and co-chairs the group’s Workforce Development Subcommittee.
