External Affairs Coordinator, Congreso de Latinos Unidos

Position Summary:

The External Affairs Coordinator is responsible for supporting the External Affairs Manager and Development Director with the agency’s internal and external events, special projects and staff committees with a particular emphasis on fundraising activities. These may include Congreso’s Corporate Advisory Council, Cultivando Futuros/Cultivating Futures Annual Campaign, United Way Campaign, Gala Latina, Golf Tournament, and community event participation. Execution of these initiatives requires strong administrative skills and a flexible schedule to be present at evening or weekend events as needed.. The External Affairs Coordinator will also support volunteer engagement.. The ideal candidate is a well-organized, detail-oriented, resourceful individual with strong communication skills who enjoys a workplace that is fast-paced and varied..

Essential Functions:

Agency Events:

1. Support the Fundraising and External Affairs Department in its execution of external events and fundraising initiatives including the Gala Latina, Golf Tournament, Corporate Advisory Council, Cultivando Futuros/Cultivating Futures Annual Campaign, United Way Campaign.

2. Work to confirm and communicate with donors and sponsors.

Database and Constituent Relationship Management:

1. Work with Development staff to maintain fundraising software which contains Congreso’s mailing list, donors, funders, and all relationships.

2. Support External Affairs Manager in executing volunteer recruitment and management strategies.

Non-Essential Functions

1. Attend relevant workshops or join professional groups as necessary to maintain professional knowledge.

2. Adheres to Congreso’s security guidelines and ensures the appropriate handling of sensitive information.

3. Facilitates and attends relevant staff meetings to promote communication and execution of goals.

4. Completes special projects specific to the function of the department or as needed for the department as directed by the Supervisor.

5. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Career Pathway: Development)

· Basic understanding of Congreso’s mission, vision, values, programs and services, social media and business plan.

· Knowledge and understanding of targeted community needs and demographics.

· Understanding of legal criteria for issues such as confidentiality, domestic abuse, child abuse, and mandated reporter requirements.

· Ability to provide nonviolent intervention with a high level of ethical standards of conduct, cultural sensitivity and within appropriate boundaries and limits.

· Ability to effectively use standard office equipment.

· Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.

· Possesses strong interpersonal skills as demonstrated by compassionate, courteous, cordial, cooperative, and professional interaction with diverse groups of co-workers, external business partners, and the community.

· Ability to operate a computer and use a variety of common software programs including Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, UNIDAD, and customized databases.

· Adheres to all Congreso and department policies and procedures.

· Attends all Congreso in-services as required.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills and effectively communicate with individuals and groups.

Development Staff Competencies

· Ability to use computers and other technology for tracking donors and research and development of new forms of communication to further the organization’s development initiatives.

· Ability to expand organizational networks with funders, government officials, community partners, and members of the community for the purpose of resource development and fundraising.

· Ability to develop relationships and/or network and tailor messages with community members, other non-profits, employers, government, etc.

Experience, Education, and Licensure

Minimum Experience: 2+ years’ experience in a community-based non-profit environment, specifically within Administration, institutional public affairs, fundraising or a combination of both; experience recruiting and coordinating volunteers, sponsors, partners, etc. Experience managing events, speaking publicly in front of large groups, and managing multiple priorities.

Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.

Minimum Education: BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university with a concentration in business, marketing, public relations, social work, or other related field of study preferred. A combination of related experience and education considered.
