Join the Mentoring Partnership & Resource Center for The Essentials: A Curriculum for People Who Mentor Young Black Men
In order to build authentic relationships with young Black men and boys, mentors must delve deep into their own power and privilege, unpack their own biases, and understand how to manage and use them in a mentoring relationship.
In this training mentors will:
- Become more deeply aware of and reflect on their own power and privilege, and gain skills and strategies needed to develop authentic relationships with youth
- Develop an understanding of the diverse resources present in mentees’ communities
- Support young Black men in their journey of empowerment with evidence-based strategies, and work positively towards structural change
- Expand their mentoring networks
Length: eight hours for the full training curriculum
Intended audience: mentoring program staff, current mentors, and future mentors of young Black men
Prerequisite: participants acknowledge the existence of structural racism and its impact on young Black men
This training will take place over two half-days: February 10, 2017 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM and February 17, 2017 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM
