Field Research Specialist
The Field Research Specialist is responsible for the development and implementation of strategies to recruit subjects into TCRI’s Temple Health: Block-by-Block (THB3) initiative. This epidemiologic study involves the door-to-door enrollment and serial data-collection of 5,000 households across multiple North Philadelphia communities. It is the ‘flagship’ community partnership initiative for Temple University’s Lewis Katz School of Medicine and Temple Clinical Research Institute (TCRI).
Primary responsibilities include: initiating and coordinating community events and meetings to inform residents about this project; developing appropriate survey instruments, and conducting subject surveys and interviews by door-to-door canvassing or at centralized community locations; entering study data into REDCap database, and conducting data quality monitoring procedures to assess data accuracy; assisting with educational programs provided to community groups about research and THB3 goals; and coordinating with TUHS clinical faculty and staff to provide community health improvement services as part of this program. The incumbent must utilize practical knowledge of clinical research principles and procedures, and a creative approach to community engagement strategies. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of experience in conducting/coordinating clinical research, community research and/or community outreach initiatives.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Required Skills and Abilities:
*Demonstrated computer skills, and working knowledge of MS Office Suite software programs.
*Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
*Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with a diverse constituent population and engage potential study participants.
*Demonstrated organizational and prioritization skills.
*Ability to work overtime, nights, and weekends as needed.
Preferred:
*Ability to converse in Spanish.
*Knowledge of North Philadelphia neighborhoods.
