Director of Programs and Operations Job Description
A Little Taste of Everything is a non-profit that runs Mill Creek Farm in West Philadelphia. The Mill Creek Farm implements its mission through farm-based learning programs, by cultivating and distributing fresh produce, and by demonstrating ecological technologies and creative resource use to provide for basic needs. We believe in food justice: that everyone has a right to affordable, healthy, quality, culturally appropriate food that is accessed in a way that is community-controlled, environmentally sustainable, and socially just.
A Little Taste of Everything is hiring a Director of Programs and Operations for Mill Creek Farm.
The Director of Programs and Operations will be responsible for managing all aspects of organizational operations, for fundraising and grant writing, for developing and facilitating educational programs, maintaining collaborations, promoting Mill Creek Farm’s work in the greater Philadelphia area and participating in long-term organizational planning and development. The Director of Programs and Operations will report directly to the Board of Directors. The position is full time, year-round and based at the office and farm in West Philadelphia.
The Director of Programs and Operations is responsible for the following:
Program Management
◦ Coordinate and design farm education programs for K-university students and adults including after school programs, field trips and farm tours and community-led workshops
◦ Coordinate and lead internship for high school aged youth. Oversee hiring, curriculum/program design, and evaluation. Maintain partnership with Urban Nutrition Initiative
◦ Supervise and train Education Apprentice, including check-ins and end-of-season reflection
◦ Maintain and care for educational gardens and infrastructure with the support of Mill Creek Farm volunteers and Farm Director
◦ Lead infrastructure projects that benefit education in collaboration with the Farm Director
◦ Maintain collaborations and key partnerships
Operations
◦ Prepare monthly Board reports: financial, fundraising and programmatic
◦ Supervise and provide support for Education and Outreach Coordinator
◦ Work with Farm Director to hire apprentices
◦ Perform annual staff evaluations and mid- year reflections of Education and
Outreach Coordinator
◦ Co-facilitate weekly staff meetings
◦ Financial Management: budgeting, creating monthly financial reports, monitoring cash flow, bill payment, bank deposits, processing payroll, working with accountant to report annual 990
◦ Manage insurance policies and communicate with providers and brokers
◦ Maintain website and social media with support from Education and Outreach Coordinator
◦ Promote collaborative staff dynamic
Development
◦ Write grants, research new funders, track and report on grants
◦ Solicit individual donations and nurture relationships with funders
◦ Raise funds through bi-annual appeals
◦ Seek corporate sponsorships and in- kind donations
◦ Organize seasonal fundraisers and events
◦ Maintain donor database
Community Outreach and Partnerships
◦ Coordinate with the Farm Director attendance at community meetings to represent Mill Creek Farm.
◦ Promote events and fundraisers
◦ Conduct outreach to community organizations, neighbors, leaders, etc.
Required Experience
5+ years of youth development work and environmental education
3+ years of non- profit management and program development experience
3+ years of grant writing and fundraising
1+ year of urban agriculture and food systems experience
Required Skills
Ability to multi-task, manage projects independently, and prioritize tasks
Able to relate with people of all ages and ethnic backgrounds
Able to work successfully in a team environment
Excellent written, oral, and relationship building skills
Experience supervising others
Other Helpful Skills
Experience with QuickBooks, accounting, and financial management
Experience with civiCRM or other donor database, Drupal, web maintenance
Schedule
Availability on nights and weekends is essential
