Postsecondary Mentor Team Leader (AmeriCorps Position)
Full-time, one-year AmeriCorps Member Position (January 4th, 2016 – December 23nd, 2016) at YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School, an alternative 12th-Grade-only, diploma-granting high school for former high-school dropouts ages 18 to 21.

Background
YouthBuild Philadelphia is a two-year program for 18 to 20 year olds who previously dropped out of high school. During the first year of the program, students earn a competency-based high school diploma, receive vocational training, and serve as part-time AmeriCorps members. In the second year of the program, alumni receive support to pursue their postsecondary goals; this position primarily focuses on the second year of the program and works with employers.

Job Description
As a full-time AmeriCorps member of YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School, the Postsecondary Mentor Team Leader (AmeriCorps) is responsible for assisting program staff in the development and implementation of the YouthBuild postsecondary-mentoring program, which matches adult volunteer-mentors with student YouthBuild AmeriCorps Members to support their program completion, professional development, and postsecondary goals which will assist with employment goals of students and alumni.

The primary responsibilities include:
 Mentoring Project Leadership: serving as a project lead and supporting Minimum Time AmeriCorps Members in various settings (worksite, service site, college campus, employment partners, ect), matching mentors, and facilitating the mentor relationship closure process in partnership with the Employment Success Manager who serves as the direct supervisor
 Promotion: succinctly communicating the goals of the mentor program and promote it internally and externally
 Communication: compile and communicate experiences and information from the mentors in the program
 Employment / Career Services: support Mentors to as well as provide direct employment and career mentorship (resumes, job coaching, ect) to students and alumni
 Postsecondary Initiatives: support career development, bridge programs, and alumni initiatives
 Program Involvement: participate in community service events, action planning with students, summer bridge programing, and alumni career events

The Team Leader is required to perform the following duties during regular hours 8:00am-4:00pm with flexibility required for daily calendar adjustments and occasional for night and weekend events.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED, and be a US Citizen, US National, or lawful permanent resident of the US.
• Must be in progress towards an Associate’s/Bachelor’s degree, technical certification, or other postsecondary training program OR have completed one of the previously listed programs, an apprenticeship, military service, or a year of service.

Skills and Abilities Required
Prior experience in a nonprofit, community organization, or student leadership
 Skilled at taking initiative, problem solving, and working independently to be able to develop, assist Employment Success manager, and assist with coordinating a mentoring / volunteer program
 Skilled at building interpersonal relationships, to work/serve effectively as part of a team, and to support volunteers
 Strong verbal skills, to communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, and community groups
 Skilled at written communication, to assist with program materials and reports
 Dependable and able to maintain positive attitude, to fulfill commitment to term of service
 Committed to the concept of national service and to making a difference in the community
 Basic computer literacy, to be able to assist with program materials and tracking volunteer hours
 Able to react to change productively and to handle other tasks as assigned
 Strong ability to utilize Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
 Candidates must have the ability and willingness to do occasional physical labor including: lifting, carrying, cleaning, and painting

Preferred Skills
 Prior demonstration of leadership and assisting group coordination
 Design and facilitation of events or programs
