Reports To: SEPC Director Status: Part-time
Hours of Work: Three weekdays from 2pm to 5pm, additional hours weekdays 9am – 5pm.
Some evening and weekend meetings and events required

SUMMARY:
The Southeast Philadelphia Collaborative informs, educates and organizes a broad, diverse network of community partners, policymakers and stakeholders to leverage greater access to resources and opportunities that address the needs of youth in South Philadelphia. As an initiative of United Communities, the collaborative encompasses the majority of the agency’s community outreach efforts. SEPC staff work to build partnerships and collaboration among agencies in the neighborhood through a combination of school-based coordination and neighborhood-based substance abuse prevention. The Youth Coordinator will support the work of the South Philadelphia Prevention Coalition by engaging youth for input around the efforts of the coalition. The mission of the South Philadelphia Prevention Coalition is to work strategically with existing organizations and service providers to strengthen the ability of our youth to resist using illegal substances and to prevent underage drinking. The Youth Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the work of the South Philadelphia Prevention Coalition through youth outreach, which includes facilitating small groups of youth in an afterschool setting at six schools. These groups will discuss substance use, access, and related issues in two neighborhoods in South Philadelphia and will help the coalition work toward reducing youth substance use.
This is a new, grant-funded position. The Youth Coordinator is expected to be creative, flexible, and a self-starter.
Qualifications – Essential:
• High School Diploma (some college preferred)
• Ability to network and build relationships with diverse groups of people
• Ability to work with diverse groups of youth and engage youth in planning activities
• Creative self-starter who is able to be innovative and adaptable to a new position.
• Current PA State Criminal Clearance, DPW Child Abuse History Clearance, FBI Fingerprint, Health Appraisal w/ Mantoux TB Test
Knowledge, Skills & Experience – Essential:
• Experience leading or facilitating meetings, discussions, and/or collaborative projects
• Experience working with high school and middle school aged youth
• Ability to lead and guide small group conversations
• Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
Knowledge, Skills & Experience – Desirable:
• Experience with collaboration and relationship-building
• Basic understanding of data use and statistics
• Experience working with Philadelphia public schools and non-profit organizations
• Experience working with youth in South Philadelphia
