Associate/Full Professor – Interdisciplinary Environmental Health and Community-Engaged Research
Position Summary:
The Department of Health Sciences is seeking an Associate/Full professor and Environmental Health Scientist with a strong background in community-based participatory research, environmental justice, and social science-environmental health collaborations. The faculty member will be part of the Social Science Environmental Health Research Institute (SSEHRI), which specializes in collaborative research at the intersection of social science and environmental health science. SSEHRI is strongly committed to interdisciplinary research, to community-based participatory research, and to collaboration with partners such as environmental organizations and government agencies. SSEHRI has several grants from NIH and NSF, including a training grant, with a variety of collaborators in social sciences, environmental health, law, and computer science. This will be a joint appointment between the Department of Health Sciences of the Bouvé College of Health Sciences, which will be the tenure home, and the appropriate department or school in the College of Social Sciences and Humanities. It may be possible for the joint appointment to be in a different college of the university.
Qualifications:
Applicants must have a doctoral degree in Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Exposure Science, or a related field. Examples of research areas that would fit this position include: biomonitoring and household exposure, policy and regulatory issues concerning health effects of toxic substances, environmental justice approaches to cumulative impacts, natural resources impacts on health, toxic substances in home and urban gardens, endocrine disruption, chemical contamination of food, and climate change and health. The candidate must have a strong background in community-based participatory research, environmental justice, and in collaborative work between social science and environmental health. The successful candidate will be expected to play a major role in SSEHRI, the Department of Health Sciences, and the department or school in which the joint appointment is held, teach both graduate and undergraduate courses, maintain an active research agenda, secure extramural funding, and serve on departmental and university committees. In the Department of Health Sciences, the faculty member would rotate teaching Environmental Health, as well as one or more of the following: exposure science, environmental policy, biostatistics, epidemiology, survey design, qualitative methods, and health policy.
