Making Communities Safer: Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design And Community Collaboration

If your neighborhood is plagued by persistent crime, this session will reveal environmental factors and show how you can change them to make a significant difference. By using design and community collaboration you can advance safety and crime prevention at hotspots throughout your community. Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) is a successful tool that directly addresses the relationship between the physical environment and the incidence of crime. You will learn about the SafeGrowth program designed for professionals in community development, design, planning, law enforcement and crime prevention. You will also gain skills to implement and sustain community safety initiatives. Commercial corridors and community parks in North and West Philadelphia will be featured as models of hotspot intervention.
